The Hobbit films may gain some familiar faces as actors and characters from Lord of the Rings return to the prequels of the trilogy, the two Hobbit films. Peter Jackson has confirmed that Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett, who played the Elves Elrond and Galadriel, will be back in The Hobbit, if they agree to the script that is.
"We have a process that would start with showing them the script...We're not [beginning] any official process until we have the 'official' script that they can read."
That's Jackson's comment through MTV, and we know that they are writing the second script just now, so there's still a way to go. Of course I seriously doubt they will say no, do you?
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies gets a big name in the form of Natalie Portman, and I do find that surprising. The film is adapting the book which combines Jane Austen's classic with zombies. Yes, crazy but true, Variety describes it as:
"...an expanded version of the Austen classic, the book tells the timeless story of a woman's quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers."
Portman would play Elizabeth Bennet who is actually working hard at killing zombies when Mr Darcy arrives on the scene and she goes all a-quiver. Sounds insane, but with Portman leading you have to think that something good will come out of it.
While we know that Joshua Jackson is going to lead the film adaptation of the seventies television show UFO, no other cast announcements have been made. However the director Matthew Gratzner has someone in mind for the role of Colonel Virginia Lake and really wants Ali Larter to sign up. Of course she would have to be asked first I would think. From Forbidden Planet through JoBlo:
"For the character of [Colonel] Virginia Lake, we've talked to Ali Larter, who's very interested. I've actually met with her, and I think she would be a great addition to the picture. Lake is very strong and obviously also very feminine, and Ali Larter definitely encompasses that."
Well try asking, it always worked for me when I was younger and got out of that awkward phase of not being able to ask a gorgeous woman anything.
Bryce Dallas Howard has signed up to star alongside Matt Damon and Cécile De France in Clint Eastwood's next film entitled Hereafter. Interesting that there seem to be a run of directors who once they work with Matt Damon go onto make another film with him.
The script is written by the excellent Peter Morgan and, according to Variety, tells the story of a working American, a French journalist and a London school boy who are touched by death in different ways.
Sounds like they probably have near death experiences, meet in the afterlife, and then come back to the real world to go searching for each other. Or maybe I'm wrong.
