The Crazies remake second trailer
There's a new trailer online for the remake of The Crazies, and during the first half I was going to say how great it was, and then it spends the second half showing some scare set-ups and a couple of unusual death set-ups and begins to lose me a little.
The new version of the film is directed by Breck Eisner and leads with Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell, and they do look great in the film. In fact the first half of the trailer gives an excellent feel to this horror remake.
I think it's just the feeling of having seen the latter half before in other horror films that has me a little jaded, shown perfectly by the “oh he's dead, let's lean closer, oh no he's alive and leaping at us” moment. Then there's the bizarre moment of the hand saw chasing the character across the room as he scrambles backwards on the floor instead of just either standing up or kicking it out of the way.
If these kind of moments weren't there, and in fact maybe just these two scenes, this would be a superb trailer. As it stands it's still better than the first, but I'm still reserving judgement for the film itself.
