Directors fighting for Mark Millar’s Nemesis?

MarkMillar.jpgMark Millar is fast becoming a fuel for Hollywood. Wanted and Kick-Ass are hot properties, and he's not stopping there. Next up is his new comic Nemesis, a superbly dark story that would see a character like Bruce Wayne totally twisted around to be an evil character preying on the people, and the police, of the city he inhabits.

Well Hollywood like it so much that Millar himself has reported that the project is in the process of being picked up for a big screen treatment, and he's throwing a couple of interesting names into the mix.

Mark Millar announced the idea of Nemesis in rather hard terms, but think of Bruce Wayne aka Batman, all that money and technology, and his close relationship with the police. Now whip that all around 360 degrees and see what would happen if he was a psychopath, if his life was there to strike terror into people and particular police, and every year he chose a policeman to prey upon and destroy for his own personal pleasure.

Well that sounded like a cool twist on the superhero, and speaking the other day on his own message board through he revealed that the idea is being investigated by some names in Hollywood. Typically some sites had leapt on the idea and started rumours that Sam Raimi was interested since he had just left Spider-Man. No said Millar:

”This week CAA was approached by an A-list director to buy Nemesis before it goes to auction in March. Then Sam announces he's not involved in the Spider-Man franchise any more, pursuing other projects. A lot of movie sites got in touch last night asking if the two stories are linked, but I just want to make it clear that Sam is not the guy who contacted my agent.”

However the rumours were self-fulfilling, and probably because Raimi's people saw the story, investigated it, and saw an interesting idea in Nemesis. Now things have changed slightly, for then Mark Millar came back and stated:

Things move fast in Hollywoodland. I just woke up to some VERY unexpected emails...”

It seems Millar is hot property just now. After he explained the concept of his Nemesis story people began getting in touch, and he has another project that hasn't even been talked about as Nemesis has and there are people asking about buying that already.

Another poster enquired about Guy Ritchie making the film, and Millar came back with the fact that he was off to speak to Matthew Vaughn about the idea. Personally I think that Vaughn would be the better candidate, and Millar suggests something similar saying that perhaps this would be too close to Sherlock Holmes but with superheroes.

What do you think? Vaughn, Ritchie or Raimi? Of course early days and early rumours, but I think Vaughn could really push into true superhero films with this superb concept.
