Paranormal Activity 2 gains Saw director
Paramount are moving forward with Paranormal Activity 2 already, mighty quick if you ask me, and they have a writer, director, and the original team on board as producers, although that could mean anything from receiving a pay slip or actually having some involvement in the film.
I think it's surprising that they aren't using the original team, and more so that they are turning to the director of Saw VI.
Saw VI director and Saw franchise editor Kevin Greutert is the man to direct Paranormal Activity 2 and the screenwriter will be Michael R. Perry who has been a television writer for episodes of American Gothic, Millenium, The Dead Zone and many others, as well as having the third place script on last year's Black List.
Oren Peli, the man who directed the first Paranormal Activity (Filmstalker review), said through The Hollywood Reporter and the BBC that:
"These guys get it, and the fans won't be disappointed,"
I presume we won't be disappointed if we weren't disappointed by the first film, but what if we were? I certainly was as it didn't scare me at all, and the out of story ending was all a little too Hollywood.
Still it made a lot of money, and there you have it. Oh, and as an aside, remember you can win Paranormal Activity goodies on Filmstalker.
I wonder where they will go with the story, will they follow the demon to a new couple, follow a character onto a new life, or deliver a completely new story altogether? In my eyes I think they have to follow the characters, anything else is a cash in.
How do you think they can continue the series? Is there a way without just using the name and reputation from the first film?
