The Electric Church adapted...

Resurrection of the Christ gets made...

It seems that the film Protection, which was planned to be starring Paul Walker and Simon West directing, has changed hands for the lead actor and the according to Production Weekly through Cinematical. Patrick Alessandrin is now set to direct the film and word is that Clive Owen is going to be the lead in a story that sees a former Special Forces soldier standing up against Mexican gangs to try and rescue a judge's daughter that has been kidnapped. That was the original story, but who knows if it'll stay that way now that Alessandrin is on board, we'll see more action that's for sure. Will Owen be learning Parkour?

Joe Carnahan has been talking about a lot of films since Smokin' Aces (Filmstalker review), and none of them have come to fruition, indeed The A-Team came out of nowhere. So now what we're hearing through Cinematical and AITH is that he's talking about another film, The Grey, the story of a group of pipeline workers heading back from Alaska from their stint working there, the plane crashes and they have to survive in the wilderness while a pack of wolves is hunting them down. It's a long way from White Jazz.

Jeff Somers series of novels, the first being, The Electric Church are to be adapted for film. The three books in the series are set in the near future where Earth is controlled by a federation of nations and governed by a central council. A character called Avery Cates is a bodyguard and assassin who is forced by the police to kill the founder of a church that converts people to its cause by transplanting their brains into robotic bodies that server their will. The story comes from The Hollywood Reporter.

The producer of The Passion of the Christ is working on another film, The Resurrection of the Christ. According to Variety Dan Gordon is writing, who in the past has written Passenger 57, Wyatt Earp, Murder in the First, and The Celestine Prophecy adaptation, and Jonas McCord is set to direct. A producer says of the film:

”It's as much about the key players as it is about Jesus...We want to bring in the 'Gladiator' dimension of the first century against the political milieu of the time.”

Apparently the story will focus on those involved in the story of the crucifixion, on their greed and ambition.
