The Ghost Writer trailer in high definition
The trailer for Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer has arrived in English and high definition, and it's looking rather good. There are hints at some great scenes, powerful performances and the possibility of an Hitchcockian set-up to provide tension and suspense galore.
The proof is in the final pudding of course, but from everything we've seen so far and this full blown English language trailer, I'm thinking the film could turn out to be rather good.
There's the great cast too, Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall and Robert Pugh are all shown in the trailer, but then there's Olivia Williams, Timothy Hutton, Eli Wallach, James Belushi and Tom Wilkinson too. That's an interesting list of actors that you might not necessarily expect in the same film.
The story of The Ghost Writer follows a writer who is asked to write the memoirs for the ex-British Prime Minister, a man who has courted controversy and is surrounded with accusations of war crimes. However the writer doesn't really realise the scope of this when he takes the job on, but it soon becomes clear, along with the unnerving information that the last ghost writer committed suicide by drink and drowning over the book.
You can see the trailer over at Apple Trailers in all the usual Quicktime formats and high definition.
I'm liking it, and despite what you think of the director's private life, he's a damn fine director working from a strong script adapted by Robert Harris from his own novel. All the elements are there, it's just if he can deliver them or not.
What's most interesting is that the film is being marketed at a time when the ex-British Prime Minister is heading into a tribunal where some would hope he's found guilty, or at least accused, of war crimes himself, an interesting parallel, but no UK release. Maybe there's a conspiracy?
