Fast and the Furious fifth sequel
At the beginning of January Vin Diesel announced that he had been handed what amounted to two more chapters in the Fast and the Furious franchise from the writer Chris Morgan, previously the actor had only been expecting to see one. Now we're hearing that there's one more film ready to go.
The current film, the fifth in the series, is carrying the title of Fast Five, and reports are that Chris Morgan is writing it as we read, with two main stars ready to return.
Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are apparently signed and ready to return, with the studio just having closed the deals. Not only are the two stars back but they also have the producer Neal Moritz and the director Justin Lin. Now that's already sounding like a full octane sequel already.
Last year's Fast & Furious (Filmstalker review) was the highest grossing of the franchise, and so it was hardly surprising that Universal would want to make another one.
What is the surprising part is that there's no suggestion of that other film that Vin Diesel revealed in January on his own Facebook page:
"If 2009's 'Fast and Furious' was chapter one, what writer Chris Morgan just delivered is Chapter 2 and chapter 3.:I have never been submitted a two story saga from a studio before... it is very exciting, and shows a commitment level that is hard not to respond to.
Excited about the sexy locations the filming of this saga would take us... this novel like story, that has twists and unexpected turns that is authentic, truthful and challenging to the characters."
Well that sounded like two films to me. Perhaps though that after some comments and rework from Chris Morgan it turned out to be just one film, or perhaps there are two there, and the studio are going to make one film, see how it goes, and if it is successful, do the deals for another Fast and Furious entry.
According to Variety through JoBlo, the story will see Brian and Dom as fugitives once more, being chased down by a single minded agent. Apparently they're looking at a release in 2011.
I'm up for another film, what's not to like? Action and fast cars! Mind you I think the name has to change. What about you, up for more Fast and Furious?
