Neil Jordan's Ondine trailer online
Since news of Neil Jordan's Ondine film came out in June of 2008 I've not written anything about it, I've not heard anything about it really, until now. Back then we heard that Colin Farrell and Alicja Bachledaw were set to star as an Irish fisherman who catches a mythical sea nymph in his nets and takes her home to look after her. Well, that's what he wants to believe.
Now there's a trailer for the film and we get to see the two potential sides of the story, the mythical one, and the one based in reality. What's more is that the trailer does intrigue and offer some interesting set-ups for the film.
The film is billed as:
”The story of an Irish fisherman who discovers a woman in his fishing net who he believes to be a mermaid”
Which is intriguing in itself, but the trailer for Ondine tells a much darker story. It's obviously not the truth and that she's actually on the run from someone, someone who wants her dead and thinks she drowned.
The film stars some great talent, Tony Curran, Stephen Rea, Dervla Kirwan, and the two leads of Colin Farrell and Alicja Bachledaw, and it's a great chance for Farrell to prove something. Oh, and of course it's written and directed by the great Neil Jordan.
Here's the trailer which I found through The Playlist who have seen it and say that it does have flaws, the twist ending isn't a surprise, but there's great cinematography and a score to boot, plus the sum of the parts is better than the individual flawed moments. Also, they don't care for the trailer.
That's possibly because the film is different from the feel given in the trailer, although going on the trailer, which I have below, I'd say that the film is looking strong. See what you think:
