Speedy Gonzales the movie?!
I’m getting bored of saying things about terrible Hollywood ideas, and I’m running out of clichés to start these stories off, especially a story about a film version of the cartoon of the mouse Speedy Gonzales that sported the catch phrase, “¡Andale! ¡Andale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba!”.
However, here’s the rub, not only are the studio saying that they are going to update this version, they are also changing the character and bringing him into the real world. Speedy Gonzales is set to become a boy, not a mouse.
Yes, it would seem that the studio, producers and writers are making radical changes to the story that we would know of Speedy Gonzales, and turning it into a real world story, with humans.
While that might garner some interest, I can't help but wonder at the previous credentials of the writers on the project, Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen wrote Garfield, Cheaper By the Dozen, Evan Almighty, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, and Daddy Day Camp.
I'm a little confused by the story in The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision, for it begins by telling us that it's going to be a live-action/CG film with George Lopez voicing the character of Speedy Gonzales. Okay, I'm with you so far, so he'll be a CG character with Lopez doing the voice. However then the story has Producer Anne Lopez telling us that:
”Speedy's going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he's a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he's good at.”
A boy? I'm now not sure if we're going to see a real life human version of Speedy Gonzales, or if the character it going to remain a mouse. If it's a boy then why the voice over?
