Tennant playing against Isaacs and Newton

DavidTennant.jpgDavid Tennant is teaming up with, or possibly against, Thandie Newton and Jason Isaacs in a new psychological thriller called Retreat.

It sounds a cool premise, think Dead Calm with Tennant playing the mysterious stranger, and it's how Retreat is being pitched.

New director Carl Tibbetts is set to direct the film and these three excellent talents, in the script that he co-wrote with Janice Hallett.

Retreat will follow a couple who are trying to rebuild their relationship by heading out to a remote island and staying there just by themselves. However it doesn't stay that way for long as a man appears at their front door who is half dead and the couple bring him in and nurse him back to health.

It appears that he's a military man and has come from the mainland where he claims a deadly virus is killing millions of people, telling them that they should stay on the island.

According to the Magnet Films producer Gary Sinyor through Screen Daily:

"It reminded me of Dead Calm when I first read it. Only better. It's got a similar sexual tension but the battle of wits between the characters and plot twists are constantly surprising."

Sounds promising, although it's also the production studio's first thriller. Okay, a lot of firsts, but you have to admit that the cast sounds great and the idea, although we've seen it before, sounds strong too. Will David Tennant be able to shake off the Doctor with this film?
