The Lost Symbol begins

TheLostSymbol.jpgIt's not a surprise that the sequel novel to Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code (Filmstalker review) is going ahead towards cinemas, after all the series has been a successful one in print and on the screen, so why not go after The Lost Symbol too?

Unsurprisingly the book has been picked up by Columbia Pictures to be made into a film and to follow the franchise that's been seen through two films already.

We all know that they've been successful with the adaptations but it's the amount that's surprising, US $1.2 billion according to Total Film, although that won't be out and out profit, it's a great figure to win over the studio. Frankly they'd be mad not to go for it don't you think?

Steven Knight is the man behind the first stab at the adaptation, he's already been the script writer for Eastern Promises (Filmstalker review) and Dirty Pretty Things, and he's the first on board.

I say that because neither Tom Hanks or Ron Howard have been signed up yet, and you would expect both back on the scene without a hesitation, especially from the previous comments we've heard from them.

I don't think either of them are going to say no to a third, especially as it offers a little more to the relationship, the stories and the characters. I'm sure they would say yes to completing a trilogy and then we'd see them leave for the fourth, don't you think?
