Predators pays respect to Predator

Predator.jpgPredators is coming, promising all sorts of things such as being the Aliens of Alien all the way to something new and something of a restart for a tired franchise, destroyed by the idiots who paired it with the Aliens and tried to make both bubblegum versions of the great originals.

The first footage from in-front of the camera, behind the camera and in-front of the projector has arrived, and there are some clever mentions to the original both in terms of audio and indeed video. I think it's looking promising, but as I watched it there's the obvious opportunity to make it turn sour.

Have a look for yourself with this first footage from the film introduced by Robert Rodriguez, although remember Predators is not his film, it's Nimród Antal's, and he's assembled a strong cast, a cast who can all be seen in the following footage.

We're going to see Adrien Brody, Danny Trejo, Alice Braga, Walter Goggins, Topher Grace, to name just the big ones that we know of, and for sure Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Oleg Taktarov and Louis Ozawa Changchien will be much better known after this film, and hopefully for good reasons too.

The footage looks good, and there are some great moments that evoke the first film, perhaps a little too much. Actually I don't think that's true, I think at this stage you have to make the big connections to the original and then move slowly to what your film is going to be.

Have a look and see what you think.
