Holy Rollers trailer online

JesseEisenberg.jpgI had no idea about Holy Rollers until I saw the trailer, and while it doesn't lay out the story perfectly, it does give you a strong sense of what the film is going to deliver and shows that we might get a very interesting and dramatic performance from Jesse Eisenberg.

Holy Rollers tells the true story, or rather is inspired by the events, of when young Jewish men were recruited as drug mules in the nineties smuggling drugs from Europe into America. Bizzare, but true.

The trailer gives a strong sense of the film, and I'm really glad to be seeing Jesse Eisenberg appearing in a dramatic role, I think too many more comedic ones and we would be seeing the same old Eisenberg character and he would most definitely be typecast, so it's great to see him breaking away with something very different.

Here's the blurb for Holy Rollers:

Holy Rollers is inspired by actual events in the late nineties when Hasidic Jews were recruited as mules to smuggle ecstasy from Europe into the United States. Sam Gold (Jesse Eisenberg), a young Hasid from an Orthodox Brooklyn community reluctantly follows the path his family has chosen for him, awaiting a pending arranged marriage and studying to become a Rabbi. A charming neighbor, Yosef Zimmerman (Justin Bartha), senses Sams resistance and propositions him to transport medicine for Jackie (Danny A. Abeckaser), an Israeli dealer, and his girlfriend, Rachel (Ari Graynor).

Sam quickly demonstrates his business skill to his bosses, who instantly take Sam under their wing. Now exposed to the exciting and gritty worlds of Manhattan and Amsterdam nightlife, Sam begins to spiral deeper into their lifestyle, experimenting with ecstasy and then falling for Rachel. As the business grows, Sams double life begins to rip his family apart...

I decided to cut short the blurb there because I'm not too sure how far it goes into spoiler territory, so better to be safe than sorry. In the meantime, have a look at the trailer for Holy Rollers and see what you think.
