New Splice trailer online
I've seen Splice (Filmstalker review), and I was genuinely looking forward to it as it seemed like a strong thriller, some horror, and some social and moral commentary thrown in there, actually it seemed to have about everything. It didn't turn out that way.
The trailer makes it look superb, chilling in fact, and while the first half might deliver that, the second half of the film is rather funny and has some strange character and story choices that do have the audience laughing out loud.
Still, the trailer looks pretty good, and while this might entice you in, I would urge you read my review of Splice (Filmstalker review) as well.
The story is that two scientists are hard at work synthesising life in order to create valuably needed proteins. However they get caught up in the creating life part and when the company shut their work down, they decide to keep going beyond the allowed boundaries of science.
Great idea, great first half, but then it becomes a film that you hope has been edited apart by the studio, and if it hasn't then the second half was meant to be a funny horror with some redeeming moments but plenty of funny lines and situations. Not the film I expected to see at all, and not the film you'd expect from the trailer.
