The Other Guys trailer online
I admit it, and if you're regular you'll know it too, I am not a fan of Hollywood comedy. It tends to be dull, insensitive, in your face and anything else that suggests subtlety is out the window. So I wasn't expecting much when I saw the trailer for The Other Guys.
However, I laughed, and by the final joke it had won me over. First surprise is that Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson appear in the opening doing some real bad-ass stuff, and when they hand over to The Other Guys, comedy gold from Jackson. Then there's the fact that I liked Mark Wahlberg, who I often find a little similar in his style. Not here.
Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play The Other Guys. While Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson are the really great cops who win at all costs, you know the stereotypical film cops, the other two are the worst. They aren't very good, they're pencil pushers. Well one is.
Ferrell plays a forensic accountant while Wahlberg is the detective stuck with him as his partner because he had a bad incident when he fired his gun a little too prematurely.
One day they get their chance to start investigating something huge and become like the two lead detectives they idolise, and that's where things start going badly wrong.
The Other Guys is directed by Adam McKay, the director and writer of Step Brothers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, not all the great successes he would have hoped for I'm sure.
