The Square trailer reveals strong thriller

TheSquare.jpgI had never heard of The Square, but I do look at blurbs for newly released trailers even if I don't know them, and when the blurb caught my eye I thought I'd take a quick look, thinking that this wouldn't be the film I thought it might be.

I think I might be wrong. The Square looks set to be a stylish and twist packed film noir thriller that looks set to deliver plenty of surprises and keep you right on the edge of your seat.

The story for The Square goes like this:

Escaping the monotony of a loveless marriage, Raymond Yale becomes entangled in an affair with the beautiful and troubled Carla. Ray's moral limits are tested when Carla presents him with the proceeds of her controlling husband's latest crime. This is their chance: Take the money and run... If only it were that simple.

However despite being billed as a superb film noir and being hyped up as something to rival the Coen Brothers, there are mixed opinions about the film itself, and about the plot.

The film is directed by Nash Edgerton and co-written by, and starring, Joel Edgerton, Matthew Dabner also co-wrote the story.

I'm not really sure if the trailer tells us exactly what to expect from the film, but I'd be willing to give it a go, it certainly caught my eye and started off strong.

You can see the trailer for The Square over at Apple Trailers and decide if it does deserve the poster quote from Harry Knowles:

“One of the best films of the year. The best film noir since Body Heat”

I think that might be a little overkill on his part. What do you think?
