McDormand, Penn and De Niro hunting Nazi's
Frances McDormand is to join Sean Penn in a film that sounds as interesting as the casting decision, for both Penn and McDormand are cracking character actors, then throw into the mix that Robert De Niro is in talks to join the film and we could be looking at a strong performance from the huge actor, something we're all keen to see.
The film is called This Must be the Place and comes from the director Paolo Sorrentino who also wrote and directed Il Divo.
This Must be the Place tells the story of an unstable rock star, played by Sean Penn, who decides to hunt down the Nazi that executed his father when he was held in a concentration camp during the war.
Now that's what I didn't expect when I started reading the story over at Total Film which seems to come from Variety without any link. I really expected something off-kilter and a little amusing, but turns out I was totally wrong, I couldn't have been further from what turned out to be the actual story.
The other interesting thing is that Robert De Niro is set to star, and I make no secret of the fact that I think he's a hugely faded star. Once a great Hollywood actor, he's resorted to second rate comedies and the character he so often plays these days is himself. So I'm really keen to see him pull out an old school powerhouse performance, and on paper this film certainly suggests that it could deliver just that.
What do you think? Sound interesting?
