New chilling Buried teaser online
Ryan Reynolds inspires little in me, light comedy, wash over you romantic drivel, some more light hearted action, and soon to be down the line superhero adaptations. There are a number of films he's shown something more in, there's Smokin' Aces (Filmstalker review), The Nines, Chaos Theory, Fireflies in the Garden, but nothing that really has showcased his talent. Buried might be the film to do it.
Judging by the first teaser he might just be doing that as he leads a film where he remains buried, underground, in a coffin, trying to figure out where he is, why he's there, and how he's going to get out.
Buried is a simple story and has had one simple teaser to date, but it had a powerful effect when I watched it and this teaser is no different. It taps into a pretty primal fear that I'm sure is in everyone, being buried alive.
Here's all we know about the story so far:
Paul is a U.S. contractor working in Iraq. After an attack by a group of Iraqis he wakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it's a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap.
He has a mobile phone on dwindling power with a weak signal, a lighter, and only a limited supply of oxygen.
The film suggests that we're going to see a lot of Ryan Reynolds on his own, although there are a number of other cast members, some ten other actors listed including Stephen Tobolowsky and Samantha Mathis.
The trailer below can also be seen over at Apple Trailers in high definition, although to be fair there's no real reason as everything's in the hearing.
