OSS 117: Lost in Rio trailer online
I've heard a lot about the OSS 117 films, a French take-off of the whole spy character genre that has been running for some time and has proven a great success.
I'm really not sure about the film, although I have to believe that there's something strong there considering the run, this first trailer hasn't entirely sold me, even if the humour is apparent.
The films see France's most famous secret agent tackling major criminal plots in much the same as all spies do, even the comedic ones, and he does so with buckets of style and panache, always behind the times and always living in a male dominated world.
Here's the blurb for OSS 117: Lost in Rio:
Twelve years after Cairo, OSS 117 is back on a new mission at the other end of the world. As he tracks down a microfilm that is compromising for the French State, France's most famous secret agent will have to team up with the Mossad's most seductive lieutenant-colonel in order to capture a Nazi blackmailer. From Rio´s sunny beaches to luxuriant Amazonian forests, from the depths of secret grottos to the top of Corcovado's Christ, a new adventure is about to begin. Whatever the danger, whatever the stakes, you can always count on Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath to find a way out…
I would have to be sold on the films yet though, watching the far from perfectly subtitled trailer does leave a little to be desired, but it's worth a look. You can see it over at Apple Trailers in high definition and Quicktime.
I think it deserves a better, stronger trailer, but then the audience isn't really outside of France is it? I was watching it and thinking Dean Martin and Matt Helm.
