Space Battleship Yamato trailer online

SpaceBattleshipYamato.jpgThe trailer for Space Battleship Yamato, directed by Takashi Yamazaki, has arrived online and even though the format isn't perfect, it's looking epic as epic can be.

The battles look fantastic, the effects huge, and at first look it makes me think that this indeed could be an epic space adventure which might well break out across into the west.

The human race are facing extinction as a black hole is moving towards Earth threatening to swallow it up. As waves of Earth's defences are mysteriously defeated, hope falls to the recently restored space batttleship Yamato.

Here's the IMDB blurb for Space Battleship Yamato:

To save the human race once again facing the danger of extinction, the restored Yamato voyages in to outer space. The year is 2220. A black hole with a size 300 times larger than the sun approaches the Solar System and the earth is expected to fall in to massive black hole. A transmigration to the Sairam Star begins and the first convoy led by Kodai Yuki departs the earth. But a mysterious fleet attacks the convoy and they disappear. When the second convoy meets the same fate, Kodai Susumu heads to the Sairam in the newly rebuilt Yamato.

There's not a great deal of story to be had from the trailer, but what you do get is the sense of scale and the effects that have been poured into the film. It looks like a series of epic space battles, let's just hope the story holds strong along with everything we're seeing on screen.

I guess the big question is can it break through to the west? Have a look at this non-subtitled trailer for a feel of the film which comes through SciFi Wire:

What do you think? Does it have a chance?
