A Woman, A Gun, and A Noodle Shop trailer arrives
The film A Woman, A Gun, and A Noodle Shop from Yimou Zhang, the director of House of Flying Daggers and Hero, has a trailer online and in high definition too, and it's looking rather powerful.
It's been touted from the beginning as a remake of Blood Simple, and San Qiang Pai An Jing Qi aka A Woman, A Gun, and A Noodle Shop aka Amazing Tales: Three Guns is not only showing that very powerfully in the trailer, it's also being reported as doing it very effectively and is marketing itself on that very point.
It looks like A Woman, A Gun, and A Noodle Shop is going to show Hollywood just how to do a remake, and they're openly saying it from the beginning, indeed there are two title sequences in the trailer itself that makes it very clear:
'Blood Simple' is a term coined to describe the addled, fearful mindest people are in after a prolonged immersion into violent situations. - Dashiel Hammet
A Woman, A Gun, and A Noodle Shop based on the motion picture 'Blood Simple'
So there's no attempt to hide the fact and neither does it look like a straight remake, and from the comments of the press that have seen it, you might start thinking that this could be a really good film.
Mind you there's more to back that up, there's the director Yimou Zhang and his past films, and there's the trailer itself. It stars Honglei Sun, Xiao Shen-Yang, Dahong Ni and Xiaojuan Wang, and heavily references the excellent thriller Blood Simple film starring Frances McDormand, John Getz, M. Emmet Walsh and Dan Hedaya.
First though, here's the blurb:
Wang is a miserable yet cunning noodle shop owner in a desert town in China. Feeling neglected, Wang's wife secretly goes out with Li, one of his employees. A timid man, Li reluctantly keeps the gun the landlady bought for 'killing her husband later'. However, not a single move they make escapes the boss's notice, and he decides to bribe patrol officer Zhang to kill the illicit couple. It looks like a perfect plan: the affair will come to a cruel but satisfying end... or so he thinks, but the equally wicked Zhang has an agenda of his own that will lead to even more violence...
That comes from Apple Trailers who also have the trailer in high definition Quicktime, and below is the trailer in Flash format which is still good quality.
The film looks dramatic, stylish, and you know that Zhang is going to deliver something wonderfully visual and exciting, just watch that Shining-esque moment at the end and the tension that it builds with every swipe, and this is just the trailer.
Mind you, the previous trailer looked much more slapstick and comic than you would expect a Blood Simple remake to look like, and these two trailers really present very different stories. Let's hope this trailer is true to the film and vice versa.
