Rambo prequel? Maybe says Stallone
The idea of a fifth Rambo film has been all round the houses, moving from a Predator remake to a more recognisable Rambo story featuring kidnapping and drug cartels, but it never made it past the man himself who finally admitted that John Rambo was done and his journey had come full circle.
There were a few rumours that perhaps the production company were looking to push Rambo forward but without Stallone, something that he said would never happen. Speaking at an Expendables press conference though he revealed that it's not an out and out impossibility.
Before, when posters were being placed up at Cannes advertising Rambo V after Sylvester Stallone had said it wasn't happening, there was speculation that the series could continue without him, and that the studio were pressing ahead, something he said wouldn't happen without him.
"I certainly think this is worth pondering...It's intriguing to find the whys and wherefores of how people have become what they are. The traumas, the loss and the tragedy of being in Vietnam would certainly be a great challenge for a young actor, and it would be ironic that Rambo directs younger Rambo having played it for twenty years plus..."
A prequel Rambo? Well it's just speculation and fishing at the moment, let's be realistic about that, but it doesn't mean that it's not going to happen, and although Stallone certainly sounds like he would consider directing a prequel with another actor he was clear that Rambo was over.
The big question would be would he really do it if the offer was on the table, and if he did, who could play a young Rambo? I'm not so sure I would want to see any more in the franchise, as Stallone said, the journey is complete for the character.
