Stalked: Sherlock joins Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; More cast in X-Men: First Class; Girl with the Dragon Tattoo cast
The new Sherlock Holmes has joined Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
There's news of another cast member joining X-Men: First Class and the line-up is looking damn good.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is finally cast.
Benedict Cumberbatch (the new Sherlock Holmes on BBC) is set to play Peter Guillam, a protégé of George Smiley, the lead character in the film version of John Le Carré's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy which stars Gary Oldman in the lead, the role that Alec Guinness played so wonderfully for television. The news comes through The Sunday Times Magazine and The Playlist.
The film sees Smiley just a year into his retirement from what's called the Circus, an agency in the British Intelligence, called to the office of the Prime Minister by a senior advisor and shown evidence of a spy in the senior ranks of his former agency. The advisor asks him to root out the spy but without any backup or resources, just himself, his old methods and a few old friends.
So the line-up so far then, with Platt as The Man in Black and, as I said on the Filmstalker Facebook Page, Rose Byrne in talks to play Moira McTaggert, has James McAvoy as Xavier; Michael Fassbender as Magneto; Alice Eve as Emma Frost; Nicholas Hoult as Beast; Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique; Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee; Lucas Till as Havoc; Edi Gathegi as Darwin; Jason Flemyng as Azazel, and Kevin Bacon as the villain.
Rooney Mara is set to be Lisbeth Salander in the Hollywood remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the subsequent films, should all go well. Mara starred in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and will star in David Fincher's remake along with Daniel Craig, Robin Wright and Stellan Skarsgård. Interestingly, according to The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision Fincher also cast her in his Facebook film, The Social Network.
