Surprisingly, Stallone considers Expendables II, première footage
That title is dripping with sarcasm for two reasons, but I'm not holding it against Sylvester Stallone, and actually if Expendables does live up to the pre-hype then I'm going to be screaming for a second film, and one where Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger aren't on screen with him for just a few moments, and if this is successful then I can see that happening.
I guess the problem with The Expendables so far is that I've been hearing pretty mixed feelings on it, and there haven't been a lot of great comments coming in. Still, reserve judgement until you see it, that's what I say.
Sylvester Stallone is quoted as saying:
"If this does perform, I think it will open a little more liquidity in funding the sequel...I have an idea ready to go. People think doing a sequel is easy, but it's not because you need the element of surprise. I'm going to try to do something that's quite radical."
I wonder what that quite radical thing is? Well we'll have to wait. That is the power of marketing though, as soon as the first film is getting released try and build the hype for the second one and push forward some momentum, because for the behind the scenes work it would mean starting now, after all there's not even a script yet, just an idea.
However even if Stallone is the writer, director and star, this is something that actors do all the time, they talk to the press about how they would like to do a role or a sequel before anything has happened on it, anything at all, it's all about building that pre-hype that gets you noticed by the right people, and when they start thinking about talking about it there's a real chance it can become reality.
The L.A. Times says that the pre-release surveys for The Expendables are showing huge levels of excitement among male film fans, something that shocked me.
That again is sarcasm. You don't need any expensive surveys to realise that gathering together these amount of iconic action stars together would create a huge deal of excitement and hype with action fans, who are predominantly male. You just have to step a finger into the virtual universe of blogs out there to see that.
So, the question will be if it's any good or not, or rather if it does well at the box office. If it does do well then maybe Stallone has a crack at making The Expendables sequel with Schwarzenegger and Willis taking leading roles. Ah, I can dream.
Meanwhile, if you fancy seeing some of the première red carpet footage, damn I wish I could have taken up the invite of the ticket I was offered, you can see some right here:
