X-Men: First Class cast in, cast out
We've been following the casting for Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class through the Stalked articles and over on the Filmstalker Facebook Page, and it's now looking as though the cast is pretty solid. However today a few new announcements were made which include the loss of a name we thought was pretty much secured.
Not only that, but she's a great British actress and one that would have looked wonderful in the role. So to the new names and changes.
First comes the news that Zoë Kravitz, yes she is his daughter, is to play a character called Angel. Whether that's a connection to the Ben Foster character from X-Men: The Last Stand (Filmstalker review) who could fly and whose father was trying to suppress his abilities, we don't know yet.
Bill Milner from Son of Rambow is going to play the child version of Magneto, presumably for more of an introduction and back story for the character about how his powers grew and how he used them during the war.
Morgan Lily is set to play the younger character of Mystique, presumably in a more human type skin.
What's interesting here is that these are the only two young actors cast so far. Are we going to see them all cast as children and follow all the origins right back to the beginning, or only for major characters? I would definitely have believed that Magneto and Xavier would have been followed from the beginning, but Mystique? She would suggest that we're going to see a lot more of the mutants from being kids, so perhaps there's more casting to come.
The bigger news though is that Emma Frost has been changed, or rather the original actress we all thought was going to play the character was never signed according to The Hollywood Reporter. Alice Eve was set to play Emma Frost, or so we thought, it appears that deal didn't make it through the negotiations and the one that has been is with January Jones, and she will be Emma Frost.
So that makes the X-Men: First Class cast so far: Oliver Platt as The Man in Black; Rose Byrne as Moira McTaggert; James McAvoy as Xavier; Michael Fassbender as Magneto; Nicholas Hoult as Beast; Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique; Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee; Lucas Till as Havoc; Edi Gathegi as Darwin; Jason Flemyng as Azazel, and Kevin Bacon as the villain.
The question is how many more children are going to be cast and how many more origin stories will we see? I was hoping to stay away from the kids version of X-Men.
