Gnomeo and Juliet trailer arrives

GnomeoandJuliet.jpgI'm really not sure about the idea of Gnomeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet with garden gnomes, but then something happened, the trailer, and you know what it doesn't look that bad.

There's a cool set-up, very Toy Story like, and there's Elton John's music, not to mention names such as James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Jason Statham, Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, Ashley Jensen, Stephen Merchant, Matt Lucas, Jim Cummings, Julie Walters, Richard Wilson, Ozzy Osbourne.

The idea is simple, and obviously very similar to Romeo and Juliet, there are two groups always fighting, in this case the red and the blue gnomes who have always fought, but then one of the most popular of one of the groups falls for someone in the other, and you know where the rest of the story goes from there, if not from Shakespeare, at least from the many film and television versions of the story.

It looks like this is no different, although the big cast, 3D, animation, Elton John's music, and of course gnomes, take it into slightly different territory.

Here's the blurb for Gnomeo and Juliet:

The greatest love story ever told, starring...garden gnomes? In "Gnomeo & Juliet," Shakespeare's revered tale gets a comical, off-the-wall makeover. Directed by Kelly Asbury (co-director of "Shrek 2") and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet, who have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find a happy ending?

Then the trailer so you can see for yourself, you can also see it on Apple Trailers:
