Paranormal Activity sequel not Paranormal Activity 2

ParanormalActivity.jpgConfused? Well the sequel to Paranormal Activity (Filmstalker review) isn't actually Paranormal Activity 2, the sequel which we just saw a new trailer for the other day. In fact the sequel is actually going to be a film made in Japan called Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night, and it seems to be the direct sequel.

Although the original film-makers aren't involved in the film, it is a direct continuation of the story and moves the events across the globe.

Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night will tell the story of a young Japanese woman that was in contact with the presence from the first film in some way having visited San Diego as an exchange student. She returns to Japan carrying with her whatever it was from the first film, and soon the events begin happening around her back in her family's home, half a world away, literally.

Screen Daily has the story through Bloody Disgusting, but provide no link to the story, and don't tell us much more than that, other than recordings are made that begin to reveal what's happening and the family realise that they need to defeat this supernatural presence.

I would assume that there will be no other connection with the original than setting it up, and if it works in the Japanese you could well see see it continuing on for they do love their supernatural horrors and especially ones that continue on to franchises, a genre that Hollywood has been happy to plunder for some time, so it's only fair to see the favour returned.

You can see this being an interesting comparison to see how Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night is taken forward as compared to Paranormal Activity 2. It would be somewhat amusing if the Japanese sequel ends up selling worldwide and being just as, if not more successful. However the teasers for Paranormal Activity 2 do suggest a story that has developed somewhat from the original concept.

I'm impressed, I must say. Rarely do I encounter a blog that's both equally educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something too few people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy I came across this in my search for something regarding this.
