Space Battleship Yamato teasers online
There are two new teasers online for Space Battleship Yamato, a film that probably not many of you know about. Set in the future it tells of a fierce attack on Earth from an alien race who, after years of bombardment, have polluted the atmosphere with radiation. Humanity is close to extinction and the last hope comes from a distant planet and the promise of a device that could remove all the radiation.
The aging Space Battleship Yamato is sent on the voyage fitted with a new engine described in the message from the planet, and it sets out as the final hope of humanity against the alien attack.
It sounds great, and hugely ambitious, but if you've seen the trailer and watch these teasers you'll see that they might just have carried it off.
There are three things that strike me about the film almost immediately, there's the look and feel it has with Battlestar Galactica, the Aerosmith-esque music, and undoubtedly the pretty amazing effects of the epic space battles.
You know despite the inability to understand what's being said, you can see the potential for this film, and not just on home soil.
Here's the full blurb for the film:
It is the year 2194. The Gamilons, an enemy of undetermined form, begin an invasion of Earth. The nations of Earth pool their forces and fight back, but their armies are defeated and most of humanity wiped out.
Five years later, in 2199, the Earth has been polluted by space-to-planet bombs, and those who remain alive have fled underground. Even the former top pilot, Susume Kodai, has left the military. One day as he is exploring above-ground, a mysterious object falls out of the sky. This is a communications capsule from the planet of Iscandar, 148,000 light years distant.
Apparently on Iscandar is equipment that will eliminate the radiation. The Defense Force of Earth equips the Space Battleship Yamato with a previously unknown propulsion system, a wave-motion engine based on plans found in the capsule. Kodai rejoins the Force, and resolves to set out aboard the “Yamato.” With the fate of the Earth in their hands, the crew blasts off for distant Iscandar. They have one year until radiation drives humanity to extinction. Kodai great battle has begun. Carrying humanity last hope with it, the Yamato blasts off!
I can't wait for an English language trailer and a chance to see it. I hope it lives up to these teasers and trailer.
