The Tourtist trailer online

TheTourist-Poster.jpgThe first trailer for The Tourist has arrived online, the film from director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck and written by a mixture of talented writers, Julian Fellowes, Christopher McQuarrie, Jeffrey Nachmanoff and some revision work by William Wheeler.

It stars Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell, Timothy Dalton and Steven Berkoff about an American tourist in Italy who is befriended by a beautiful and beguiling woman, a woman who needs some unsuspecting someone to cover her real intentions.

Here's a fuller synopsis for The Tourist than the quick run down sitting on IMDB:

Johnny Depp stars as an American tourist whose playful dalliance with a stranger leads to a web of intrigue, romance and danger in The Tourist. During an impromptu trip to Europe to mend a broken heart, Frank (Depp) unexpectedly finds himself in a flirtatious encounter with Elise (Angelina Jolie), an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Paris and Venice, their whirlwind romance quickly evolves as they find themselves unwittingly thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

The trailer does look slick and gives the feeling of a fast paced thriller where all the pieces are slowly coming together and you really don't know what's happening until the very end, well that's what's being presented, I can only hope that turns out to be the case.

However I still find a little confusion with the casting of Johnny Depp, and I think I might have been warranted with that observation now looking at the trailer. The off hand one liners turn the feel of the scene into more of a comedy, and his looks seem a little misplaced, almost certainly down to his long running role as a comedy pirate.

Mind you, there are plenty of big name actors to take your mind off of Depp, Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell, Timothy Dalton and Steven Berkoff, and with the film looking so good you might well just overlook that fact. In the trailer though, it does stand out a little.
