Blomkamp's teaser for science fiction web series?
Apart from a teaser trailer there's very little to go on for Neill Blomkamp's latest venture, if it indeed is a venture, for there's no word of if it's a film, television or web based project, and even if there's any more than this intriguing teaser.
The excitement is over a one minute clip of hand held footage where two people drive up to a deserted spot in the middle of nowhere and find a very strange creature.
The clip appeared in the digital version of WiReD Magazine and is credited with the credit stating simply:
”Video By: Neill Blomkamp”
There's not much more than that apart from the video itself, so before I delve into it here's your chance to see it via QuietEarth.
So that's about as much as everyone knows, although looking at the video there are a couple of confusing things. Beside the creature in the pool is what could be taken as afterbirth, but if the creature's already stamped then it's already been born when it was stamped, Sherlock stuff.
There's a trail that leads from the puddle into the undergrowth beside which is a clump of what could be rubbish, but you could equally mistake it for something bigger, but then if it had been surely those filming would have noticed.
No, I think we're getting just what we're getting and nothing more, although /Film has done a little digging, they haven't come back with anything more substantial than pulling the stamp from the creature, which reads:
”18.12 AGM Heartland Pat Pend USA”
...and finding out that Sable Productions Ltd. filed for the trademark “AGM Heartland” on October 18th, which states the following:
Entertainment services by way of an online website with video, audio and textual content and images featuring characters and storylines about a fictional genetic engineering company that produces genetically engineered and altered organisms.”
However it doesn't match any of the projects that Neill Blomkamp has talked about before. Could this be a web only series? Could it just be the one teaser?
Well I doubt it's a one off because really it's not effective enough just as it stands, it feels like it's a lead up to something more and that there's got to be more to it than just this short snippet. Surely?
