Cowboys & Aliens trailer online
The first trailer for Cowboys & Aliens has arrived, and to be totally honest I'm surprised at just how good it looks. I shouldn't be surprised for not only is Jon Favreau behind the film but with names like Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde starring, you have to believe that it's not the film that an initial look at the blurb might suspect.
The trailer for Cowboys & Aliens presents a darker and harder film than you, and definitely I, might have expected, and there are some twists over the initial idea of simply cowboys versus aliens.
The initial blurb for Cowboys & Aliens was pretty much that, aliens arrive in America during the period of the cowboys and gunfighters, but the new blurb to go with the trailer tells us a lot more than that.
The Old West.. where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror from beyond our world. 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear.
But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force.
With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents-townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors-all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.
Now that sounds far more interesting, much more than the oddity of a comic book adaptation that some were expecting. I really like how the story of the cowboy who doesn't know who he is or where he's been is slowly revealed to both him and us.
Plus, Harrison Ford as an antagonist is pretty interesting. Pull that all together and I think Cowboys & Aliens could be a pretty damn exciting film.
