The Lincoln Lawyer trailer

MatthewMcConaughey.jpgThe trailer for The Lincoln Lawyer looks a little odd, and the way the main character is described in the blurb seems the same, a lawyer who practices out of his old Lincoln sedan. Strange, but then the film does come fro the novel by Michael Connelly (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com), and that instantly says a lot.

Then there's the fact that it stars names from Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, John Leguizamo, William H. Macy to Michael Peña, a great cast list I'm sure you'd agree, although I would say that it's a welcome departure for McConaughey from the usual romantic comedy clap-trap he churns out.

Perhaps this is a good move for Matthew McConaughey, I would say it is because he's been relying on the good looks and swagger too long, and there's a good actor in there that needs way more exposure. The Lincoln Lawyer could give that to him.

Here's the blurb for the film:

Mickey Haller is a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln sedan. Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, until he lands the case of his career: defending Louis Roulet, a Beverly Hills playboy accused of rape and attempted murder. But the seemingly straightforward case suddenly develops into a deadly game of survival for Haller.

The story sounds like the average courtroom thriller with twists and turns and the usual uncertainty of if the defendant is guilty or not, but the blurb for the book tells us that the difference is in the writing of Michael Connelly and in the new character he's created. Let's hope that translates to the film version.
