The Tourist trailer in high definition

TheTourist-Poster.jpgI'm not entirely sure that this trailer is knew, although watching it at 720p on my desktop I certainly caught snippets of scenes that I hadn't noticed in the previous versions. This trailer for The Tourist could be slightly different, but the overall story and feel is the same.

What I do notice though is that the more times I see it the less I'm associating Johnny Depp with a pirate, and the more I can start to believe him in this role. I do wish he'd tried to distance his look a little, but perhaps that's just my fault for watching the films and allowing my mind to connect him with his most well known role.

Perhaps not though. I think Johnny Depp is going to have to work hard to distance himself from the Pirate character we've all come to know and love, and also without returning to the bosom of Tim Burton. However I think that The Tourist is indeed a good step and could well do it for him, especially starring next to the superb Angelina Jolie, Paul Bettany, Steven Berkoff, Rufus Sewell and Timothy Dalton.

The plot for The Tourist goes like this:

Johnny Depp stars as an American tourist whose playful dalliance with a stranger leads to a web of intrigue, romance and danger in The Tourist. During an impromptu trip to Europe to mend a broken heart, Frank (Depp) unexpectedly finds himself in a flirtatious encounter with Elise (Angelina Jolie), an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Paris and Venice, their whirlwind romance quickly evolves as they find themselves unwittingly thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

The film is directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck whose last film was The Lives of Others, so there's a lot of promise in this film and a lot of hope for it already. From the outside it looks like a strong thriller with a few classic Hitchcock touches to it, and I'm really hoping that stays true throughout the film and that the director hasn't been seduced by Hollywood.

They do say that Jolie is very choosy about her roles and wants to read the final script before accepting a role, so perhaps that in itself is a strong sign?
