Besson directing Yeoh in Aung San Suu Kyi film

AungSanSuuKyi.jpgIt seems the news has come a long way from yesterday when Michelle Yeoh was spotted with Aung San Suu Kyi and there was a lot of guess work on whether there was a film in production or not. Now the word is that there is a production and that some filming has already taken place.

More than that Luc Besson is mentioned in the new articles today and it would seem as though he's directing the film called Dans la Lumière (In the Light).

Yesterday we heard that Michelle Yeoh had dinner with Aung San Suu Kyi and was chatting with her at the airport before she left. That has since been expanded and it appears that Yeoh spent the day at Aung San Suu Kyi's house as well.

You can read all about the Myanmar opposition politician Aung San Suu Kyi in the previous article on Filmstalker and in much more detail on Wikipedia.

In AFP through Yahoo News today we hear that Aung San Suu Kyi's spokesperson revealed that Michelle Yeoh had spent the day with her at her house in Yangon.

It also reveals that the director of the Thailand Film Office Wanasiri Morakul said that Yeoh has already been filming scenes in Thailand for a film called Dans la Lumière with Luc Besson. One would assume that Luc Besson is actually directing the film. Morakul goes on to say:

"The film is about Aung San Suu Kyi. We approved it a long time ago and they have shot in several locations"

This is indeed an unusual film choice for Luc Besson, but it's certainly a worthy film and one that everyone would benefit from seeing made, especially if it does more than concentrate on the woman herself and brings out the political issues in the country which has been under military rule for some time.

I'm sure as time goes on more information will come out about the production, but I'm surprised we haven't heard more considering it's already been filming.

So, basically, you have two U2 related films on your watch list =)

See how insidious U2 can be? I find it very funny. My husband HATES that I'm a BonoGirl and might be interested in "Killing Bono" himself, but we play a game called "And the connection is..." where everything somehow, somewhere, sometime, or in some way, relates to U2. It comes up several times a day, to his great chagrin. Mwahhhahahahaha! *puts pinkie to lip*

U2? How is this U2 related?

Their Grammy Award Winning song "Walk On" was written for her and the band has been playing it in tribute to her for during their concerts for the past 10 years. The audience wears Aung San Suu Kyi masks and Bono wears a badge whith her picture on it. They They use footage of her on their jumbotrons. U2 are BIG human rights/Amnesty International campaigners and the day she was released the first interviews everyone went for were to get U2 and Bono's reaction. It was a huge U2 online fansite victory. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the movie's theme song.

I hope she does a great job! The world needs to hear more about Aung San Suu Kyi.

She is featured as Hero of the Week over at MoralHeroes.org
