47 Ronin in 3D...

Depardieu and Khan in Life of Pi...

Benecio del Toro directing in Havana...

New Year's Eve cast growing...

Blue Valentine rating changed...

Wahlberg producing The Raven...
Mark Wahlberg is set to produce, and perhaps star in, a feature version of The Raven according to The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision. Now we're not talking the Edgar Allan Poe version here, but the Ricardo De Montreuil short film that came out some time ago about a young man with powers on the run from a futuristic police force who were tracking him from a giant police ship that monitored the city. Police drones and robots fell to his powers, which didn't seem to come easily to him. You can see the short right here:

47 Ronin in 3D...
The Carl Rinsch directed film 47 Ronin starring Keanu Reeves is to be filmed in 3D according to Collider. Wow. This really isn't becoming news any more. The studios are filming everything they can in 3D and will continue to do so whether we like it or not. Me, I'm still not buying it and where possible I'm watching in 2D, especially at home.

Depardieu and Khan in Life of Pi...
Irrfan Khan, Gerard Depardieu and Adil Hussain have joined the cast of the adaptation of Life of Pi to be directed by Ang Lee. Suraj Sharma is playing the lead role of the boy cast adrift with a Bengal Tiger which has just killed three other animals. Bollywood actress Tabu is in talks to play Pi's mother according to Variety. Khan Pi as an adult and Hussain will pay Pi's father with Depardieu playing the role of The Chef.

Benecio del Toro directing in Havana...
Benicio del Toro is one of seven people who will each direct a segment of a new film called 7 Days in Havana, a film which will showcase Havana through various peoples eyes. The other directors according to Variety are Laurent Cantet, Gaspar Noe, Pablo Trapero, Elia Suleiman, Julio Medem and Juan Carlos Tabio. Not only does each story take place morning to night but lead characters from one short will appear as secondary characters in another. Interesting concept, I like the idea of connecting the segments so they flow better as a single film.

New Year's Eve cast growing...
Jessica Biel is apparently in final negotiations to join Garry Marshall's New Year's Eve, you'll remember he directed the ensemble cast Valentine's Day in which Biel also starred. New Year's Eve will also star Robert De Niro and Ashton Kutcher with Variety saying that Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Lea Michele and Abigail Breslin are all in talks to co-star. Marshall once directed Pretty Woman and Frankie and Johnny.

Blue Valentine rating changed...
It seems that after Harvey Weinstein appealed the NC-17 rating for Blue Valentine, the MPAA saw sense and decided to give the film a rating of R, well in America anyway. Amazingly it was unanimous according to Deadline Hollywood Daily, which makes me wonder why they all gave it an NC-17 in the first place. You know this won't happen with the BBFC because they are understanding of cinema, live in the real world, and aren't banging the drum of Christian and Victorian values.
