The Rite trailer online
A new trailer for The Rite has arrived, it's the film about a young priest being trained in the ways of Exorcism by an older, more experienced priest and is apparently based on true events. Well, true in so far as the training.
The film stars Anthony Hopkins, which is an immediate draw, as well as Ciarán Hinds, Toby Jones, Alice Braga and Rutger Hauer. Now that's an interesting line up, and it's directed by Mikael Håfström.
The previous trailer looked rather interesting and seemed to set up the battle of the old priest and the old ways against the new priest and his new ways, faith and religion against fact and science. Of course we'll know who'll win in the film.
The new trailer for The Rite gives a slightly different feel and while it still carries the faith versus fact feel, it does go for a couple of rather poor Hollywood tricks at the end, and it was looking quite good until then. What is it with the quick look to camera and the loud noise?
Still I think it's looking as though it could be interesting, but the biggest battle here won't be faith versus fact or old versus new, it'll be subtlety versus Hollywood. Early on there's a lot of tension built around the way the story is going, and then at the end we're treated to the full on Hollywood fright. I hope the latter wins out, that's the kind of film that's going to give us The Exorcist feel that everyone's talking about.
Here's the new trailer which I found after seeing it pop-up at ShockTillYouDrop:
