Sixth Fast and the Furious and character spin-off?

FastFive.jpgThe question is laid and the answer is yes according to Neal Moritz who also speaks for Vin Diesel. If they get the chance and all the pieces come together there's going to be a sixth film, but then don't those behind a film always tease a sequel when the original is soon to be released?

Mind you from the sounds of some of the things they're doing with the fifth film there could well be room for a sixth, and the franchise could be on the rise.

There's a couple of things in the interview with Neal Moritz that makes me think they're learning from the previous films and building to make each new one better and better. The first is a description that Moritz has for a shot from the trailer where a car is pulling a bank vault through the streets.

When I saw that I couldn't believe it. I was thinking of the previous Fast and the Furious film Fast & Furious which had too much CG in some scenes and not enough practical. Seems like they've learned from that for Fast Five as in the interview with Collider, Neal Moritz says that this vault dragging scene is all real.

”That sequence of 14 minutes probably, of them pulling this vault through the city of Rio De Janeiro being chased by 50 police cars throughout the city is one of the most incredible sequences I’ve ever seen on film. The action in that is like nothing you’ve ever seen, it’s all real.”

Now that lightens my heart for the film, and I make no apologies for loving the sound and look of big cars on screen and in real life. He goes on to talk about the length of the big fight scene between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel and reveals that it was a lot of work, took a lot to set-up, and appears to be mostly done between the two actors themselves.

You have to admit that with a few blips the franchise has been getting better. Sure it's no Shakespeare, but it's certainly improving film to film, and if Fast Five does the job again I think there's no question of there being a sixth, or potentially more.

Mortiz reveals that they are seriously looking at an idea they have for the next film:

”In Vin and my mind we already know what the sixth movie is, we’ve already been talking about it. Vin and I have had numerous conversations about what that might be. And we’re starting to get serious about it right now. We just finished the movie like 4 or 5 weeks ago and we just needed a break, and now we’re gonna start focusing on that.”

Okay so a sixth film? Let's not start the conversation about how they'll manage to title that one and think about if they could really do it. Well the actors all have it in them, and they've even been clever enough not to just keep churning out the same film with the same characters, for we see Dwayne Johnson appearing as one of the new major characters.

In fact the franchise has so much life and grunt to it that his character may well be getting his own film, and that doesn't happen very often.

Johnson has already talked about the idea of spinning his character from Fast Five off into a new film and revealed that it was a definite goal. The character is a bounty hunter type guy, but not the ones you see on television hunting down petty criminals, the kind government agencies hire to get the really big guys, and in this interview Moritz reveals that they haven't started on a script for a film on this character but they're going to.

So Fast Five branches off into another film for Johnson's character? I could see it happen. The character has a role that would allow him to leap into different situations, different locations, and potentially have his own action franchise, and who wouldn't want him to stay in the action arena?

Looking at all that it's hard to see the Fast and the Furious franchise ending, is it?
