Straczynski's Houdini and Conan Doyle film on?
It looks like the script that J. Michael Straczynski wrote about a fictional partnership between the two real life characters of Harry Houdini and Arthur Conan Doyle is going to be turned into a film by DreamWorks.
The script tells the story of the two, one who debunked spiritualism and the other who was a leading spiritualist, who come together to solve a series of murders in the 1920's as they team up with a third character of a psychic.
It's an interesting set-up bringing Harry Houdini and Arthur Conan Doyle together in a story, although there was a real relationship between the two figures, Houdini famously went around debunking psychics and spiritualists while Conan Doyle was a leading spiritualist and believed that Houdini actually was a psychic.
It seems a strange pairing, not so much for the at odds beliefs, for that often makes an onscreen or on page relationship all the better, but because of who the figures were in history. I can see the attraction of Houdini in a story, using his knowledge to solve crimes, but Conan Doyle? Well perhaps he becomes the Watson of the relationship?
The Hollywood Reporter tells us that DreamWorks have bought the story called Voices From the Dead and that despite the fact that they held very opposing views, in real life the two famous figures actually became friends.
