Update: The Debt trailer online
The trailer for The Debt has just arrived and while it promises a lot I'm not entirely sure about it. The film tells the story of three Mossad agents who are looking back on a mission they carried out in 1965 to capture a Nazi war criminal, a man they found, was killed and some thirty years later has been found alive.
Sounds an interesting plot, and there's a great cast to go along with it too, Helen Mirren, Ciarán Hinds, Tom Wilkinson play the three Mossad agents who are shocked to find a man claiming to be the Nazi war criminal they thought they had dealt with some thirty years before surfaces in the Ukraine. Playing their characters thirty years before are Jessica Chastain, Sam Worthington and Marton Csokas.
So it is a great cast there, an interesting pairing of the younger and older actors, and then there's the people behind it with John Madden, a strong thriller director, directing, and written by Peter Straughan, Ido Rosenblum, Assaf Bernstein and the pairing of Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman.
There are moments that really do look good, but overall I don't think it flows well and presents the story as well as it could. It's a shame because I am looking forward to the film, I love a good thriller and this one has so many great things going for it already, I am reminded of shades of Munich (Filmstalker review), for obvious reasons and that's no bad thing, but will it stand up to it?
Update: The trailer has arrived on Apple Trailers in Quicktime high definition.
