TRON 3 plot reveal

TronLegacy.jpgJoseph Kosinski has been talking about TRON 3 and has revealed a little about the plot, and considering he's already told us that there's a script for a third film already, then we're getting an insight into what way the story is going.

Previously we heard that it might focus on the Dillinger character, or rather the son of Dillinger, and that had me disappointed, after all TRON: Legacy (Filmstalker review) was taking us in a clear direction with the Olivia Wilde character, shouldn't we have kept going that way?

The early rumours of the script and story were that Dillinger's son, the one we see in the board room being more than happy with releasing a new operating system where nothing much had changed just to make money, would return to the core of the film. That would see a return to the original storyline from the first TRON film more than anything that was built in TRON: Legacy.

However Joseph Kosinski has been talking about the story for TRON 3 and has revealed a little of where it may go, and it's good news, however he's also revealed that there isn't a finished script.

Speaking through Assignment X, /Film and Blastr he said:

"We're working on the story right now... Once we get a script we're all really happy with, we'll take it to the powers that be and see if we can go back to the grid."

Okay, so no script yet, but there are ideas, and the film has to be approved yet, there's a long way to go.

"I think we will pick with where TRON: LEGACY left off with Quorra [Olivia Wilde] in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter. It's that relationship between the two of them that's the next step...

...Dillinger [David Warner] was a really important part of the first film and felt like an easy way to continue that storyline and thread to have his son in the new movie...That way you have people ask those questions of what the Dillinger legacy is in the world of TRON. We didn't want to ignore it completely and it leaves a really nice springboard for some intertwining development for the next film."

That's great news. Although he will revisit the Dillinger story and bring that to the fore, that's clearly not the core of the story, it's going to be about the Quorra character, something that was brought forward in the first film but wasn't quite explained and developed enough and yet left us with this huge moment at the end, something that turned the idea of TRON around.

How could they not explore that story line and develop it further, and that's what they need to do in this next film. Now they just need that script.
