ABCs of Death with twenty-six horror directors

ABCsofDeath.jpgIt seems a huge number, but The ABCs of Death is a horror film that will have twenty-six directors each creating short films for the film. I wonder if some of them will be doubling up for in a two hour film that would give each director just four minutes thirty-six seconds each, and that's not a long time.

Directors attached are Ti West, Banjong Pisanthanakun, Jason Eisener, Simon Rumley, Srdjan Spasojevic, Angela Bettis, Adrian Garcia Bogliano, Ernesto Diaz Espinoza, Bruno Forzani and Helene Cattet, Gadi Harel and Marcel Sarmiento, Thomas Malling, Yoshihiro Nishimura, Tak Sakaguchi and Yuji Shimomura, Timo Tjahjanto, Andrew Traucki, Nacho Vigalando, Jake West, Ben Wheatley, Adam Wingard, and a worldwide competition winner.

Okay so that's a bit better, we're looking at three director pairings so that means twenty-three shorts in all, which would be five minutes and thirteen seconds each in a two hour film, still, not that much, except the idea is to film a short on each letter of the alphabet, so it's still twenty-six. Surely the running time is going to be upped towards the three hour mark?

The story from The Hollywood Reporter tells us that production is due to begin in June and run for six hundred and sixty-six days, a nice number to associate with the horror project.

Producer Ant Timpson said that the project was taken from the ABC books that his sons were reading and these gave him the idea for the project.

It's an interesting list of directors who, if you know your horror, have delivered some pretty good horror films. Each of them is assigned a letter and the brief will simply say, create a horror film about death, the rest is up to them.

This could turn out to be an interesting project, but I would hate to be the editor who is told to trim some running time off of the project and then has to work with every single director to shave off time!
