One Day trailer from Edinburgh
One Day features Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, Patricia Clarkson, Jodie Whittaker, Rafe Spall, Romola Garai, Jamie Sives and most importantly, Edinburgh. However the sad thing is that the trailer looks like it's ticking a lot of old boxes.
The film comes from the David Nicholls novel which he adapted for Lone Scherfig to direct, and it has a strong cast too which makes you think that this must be much better than it's being sold as here.
The story follows two characters, Dexter and Em, who spend the night together at graduation and become lifelong friends who get together each year on the same date and catch up with their lives. The trailer sells it as they are always just missing each other, are great friends, and Em is in love with Dexter while he is sold on the trappings of going wild and enjoying the single life, not ever seeing what's really in front of him until it's too late.
From the trailer One Day looks like ground too well trodden to be interesting, and yet the commentary on the novel is very positive so you must think that there's something different there.
The thing that obviously caught my eye is that throughout the trailer Edinburgh can clearly be seen in the shots, and it even features a local actor, Jamie Sives who was born in Edinburgh and has gone on to appear in some big films and television shows.
I must admit that Edinburgh was the thing that got me in the trailer and the rest washed over me. "Was it raining?", "I hadn't noticed"...you get the idea.
Here's the trailer for One Day which comes through The Playlist, see what you think and see if you can spot Edinburgh in the background.
