The Guard trailer with Gleeson and Cheadle
I hadn't really taken much notice of this film but I am now. Brendon Gleeson plays a small town Irish police Sergeant whose town seems to be at the centre of something big, and that's where his odd pairing of a buddy arrives, the FBI agent played by Don Cheadle, America meets small town Ireland, something that Mr Obama is today going to experience himself. I wonder if the character will claim he's Irish...or Scottish?
Anyway the draw here is Brendan Gleeson leading the way and how the two different cultures and upbringings are going to clash, not to mention the fact that Mark Strong is also starring.
I wonder though, will we see something interesting said about cultures, about political correctness, and about the two cultures, or will it all be about the situational comedy? From what I've heard it doesn't really tread ground that is overly new, but it does provide for some good comedic moments.
Here's the blurb for The Guard:
Sergeant Gerry Boyle is a small-town Irish cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international drug-smuggling ring that has brought FBI agent Wendell Everett to his door. Boyle drifts through life, not much concerned about anything, not even the mysterious murder of a man in one of the town's holiday cottages. But when Everett shows Boyle the mugshots of four drug traffickers, he recognises one of them as the dead man. And so the two cases converge, with a bemused Everett finding himself adrift in the decidedly original and sometimes surreal world of Sergeant Gerry Boyle, the last of the independents!
The trailer can be seen over at RTE Ten through Twitch who also carried the blurb. The Guard looks rather entertaining.
