The Muppets teaser trailer arrives
The new Muppets film has a teaser trailer and...well...it's not what I was hoping for. I really hope this has been released too early because the acting to begin with feels forced and flat, the timing is off, and the only part I where the old magic started to get a whiff was at the end with Fozzie's perhaps telling comment.
Where are the Muppets of old, because they aren't in this teaser.
I do hope that the opening was supposed to be overly twee and faked, much like the whole teaser felt like a set-up that had fallen flat. I was so excited to see The Muppets back again and we got this. The poster offers more than the teaser does.
Here's the blurb for The Muppets return:
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.
Maybe I'm getting it wrong, judging from the blurb the teaser has little to do with the film other than trying to be funny about a real Hollywood film being interrupted by the Muppets. Well it doesn't work, not at all. Right now I'm not expecting a lot from the film itself.
