The Howling: Reborn trailer
Finally today comes a disappointment. The trailer for The Howling Reborn, a new film in the series of The Howling that was supposed to be a remake or reboot of the story which many of us hoped would look to the original more than today's films. Wrong.
The Howling Reborn looks more like a Twilight film that is trying not to be a Twilight film by one of the characters saying as much in the trailer. Oh dear.
The Howling is a rather dated film from 1981 but Joe Dante directed it and there are some great moments, as well as some recognisable names - Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, Dennis Dugan, Kevin McCarthy, John Carradine, Christopher Stone, Slim Pickens and Robert Picardo. It did spawn some horrendous copycats and a terrible sequel which I shall not mention here. Still, the original is a strong film and holds up well, particularly stacked against today's portrayals of werewolf films.
The Howling: Reborn was supposed to turn back to that, or at least we hoped it would, and it's done no such thing. What it does look like is a Twilight version of the loose ideas around the Howling.
Here's the blurb for the film:
On the eve of his high school graduation, unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for, reclusive Eliana Wynter. But he also discovers a dark secret from his past... that he is about to become a werewolf. Now, in an effort to fight destiny and save their love as well as their lives, they must battle not only Will's growing blood lust but an army of fearsome beasts bent on killing them... and then, us all.
That doesn't even sound like it's anything to do with the original Howling either, that sounds more Twilight than you could shake a stick at.
