New I Melt with You trailer
This is an intriguing film and an equally intriguing trailer. The first trailer I saw for I Melt With You was back in 2010, in fact fourteen months ago almost to the day, and it caught my eye for the visuals, the cast, and the promise of the story, a story which set a seed of a story and never properly fulfilled it.
Now a new and longer trailer has arrived and despite showing us more of the story, I'm still uncertain as to what the film is going to deliver, but I'm even more intrigued than I was back then.
The original blurb told us nothing much about I Melt With You other than four friends lives intersect and the dark foreboding of the original trailer was as confusing as it was interesting.
Now this new trailer delivers a story, to a point, and we discover that these four friends who meet each year and have a seemingly huge blowout, have a secret from their past which surfaces on this anniversary meeting in the form of a blood stained document.
There's a blurb to go with the new trailer and that gives us a lot more of the story:
Richard (Thomas Jane), Ron (Jeremy Piven), Jonathan (Rob Lowe) and Tim (Christian McKay) are old college friends that gather annually for a week in Big Sur to celebrate their friendship and catch-up on each other's lives. They seem like typical men in their forties - all with careers, families, and enormous responsibilities - but like most people there is a lot more beneath the surface.
As the week progresses, they go down the rabbit hole of excess as mountains of drugs are consumed to a blaring rock 'n' roll soundtrack. Parties with much younger women spin out of control. Exhausted and run ragged, they bare their souls to one another revealing the disillusionment with their lives. As the truth emerges, the reunion takes a much darker turn when a promise from their past is brought to light. From director Mark Pellington, I MELT WITH YOU is a visually dazzling, wild and wooly trip deep into the male psyche, driven by four amazingly committed and profound performances.
Now that sounds fantastic doesn't it? Plus we're talking Mark Pellington directing Thomas Jane, Jeremy Piven, Rob Lowe, Christian McKay, Carla Gugino and Sasha Grey - yes guys, I know what you're thinking. The parts that get me interested there are Pellington's past work on Arlington Road and The Mothman Prophecies, and Lowe and Piven, two very good actors who don't get enough roles that really allow them to showcase their talents, could this be where they do?
Well according to The Playlist who have the trailer, the news isn't so good. There has been talk of some walkouts during the screening at Sundance, but then I've watched people walk out of perfectly good films at festivals because it's just not what they wanted to see and with another film round the corner it's easy to do.
However they also reveal that it's getting a limited release in the cinema in the U.S. on December the 9th and is hitting On Demand on November the 4th.
Here's the new trailer for I Melt With You:
I do hope it turns out to be good, there are a lot of things going for it.
