Sarah Palin - You Betcha! documentary trailer
Nick Broomfield has been responsible for some great documentaries, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer might be the one you remember most, or Fetishes, Kurt & Courtney, Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Madam, Biggie and Tupac, there are many in his long career and he's superb at making them and getting to places and asking questions you just might not expect.
He's not just a documentary maker, he gets involved in the film as well and really brings the stories out of people and injects some humour along the way. This style looks to be no different with Sarah Palin - You Betcha!
This film sees Nick Broomfield on a journey to find out more about Sarah Palin and what is behind the smiling, gun wielding, religious and political Sarah Palin. So you can guarantee that there will be a complete polarised view of the film in America.
Here's the blurb for the film:
Nick Broomfield's quest for the real Sarah Palin.
A journey across the icy snows of Alaska in mid winter, to meet the school friends, family, and Republican colleagues that in previous days gave their heart, and souls to the charismatic, charming, intoxicating ex hockey mum.
But it's not all plain sailing. People are frightened to talk, Wasilla makes Twin Peaks look like a walk in the park. It's a devout evangelical community - 76 churches with a population of only 6 thousand, and the Crystal meth capitol of Alaska.
Who are the flying monkeys, the enemies, the friends, and most importantly - are you with her or against her? Join the quest and for Christ's sake buy some thermals!
Often with Broomfield he does get to the heart of the story well and deliver something incredibly thought provoking, even if you have had a laugh or two on the way and at times he may seem a little bumbling and confused, something he's most definitely not, and come the editing room he really does deliver strong and engaging documentaries.
Being outside of America and seeing the political characters from afar, I'm really keen to see this and understand more about Palin, for it does seem to the outside world that she could be the next real candidate for President, certainly from the amount of press she receives compared to everyone else, and the view so far is mixed.
