Damon and Affleck on FBI Mafia informant film...
Last we heard of the Whitey Bulger story was that Jim Sheridan was set to direct an adaptation of Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob which he and Nye Heron and co-written. Now we're hearing that Ben Affleck is teaming with Matt Damon to deliver another version of Whitey Bulger's story. What's more is that according to The Hollywood Reporter Casey Affleck would star alongside his brother Ben who would also be directing. So far word is Damon's only producing. Bulger is a notorious Boston-based gangster who has a string of murders and crimes against his name but was also an FBI informer. He was caught earlier this year in California at the age of eighty one after a mere sixteen years on the run.

Scorsese directing Carnahan's version of Nesbo's The Snowman?...
Martin Scorsese looks set to direct the adaptation of Jo Nesbo's The Snowman according to Variety. Matthew Michael Carnahan is the man set to try and adapt the story, if the negotiations go through. The story sees the writer's popular character Harry Hole on the trail of a serial killer who leaves a snowman with a clue to each murder. No high pitched singing in this one.

Ils (Them) remake gains director...
The American remake of Ils (Them) (Filmstalker review) is happening, we first heard about it in December 2006 not long after it was seen. It took a long time but it's happening and Variety tell us that the commercials director David Alcalde is set to make it.

Sherlock Holmes 3 gains writer...
Drew Pearce has been pulled in to write the third Sherlock Holmes and the second hasn't even been released yet. Deadline say the deal, which sees the writer of Iron Man 3, will be signing soon.

Director for The Lost Symbol...
Mark Romanek is apparently the front runner to direct The Lost Symbol, the third in the series with the lead character of Robert Langdon. Tom Hanks is set to reprise his role according to Deadline but we won't be seeing Ron Howard return. They say that Romanek, who directed the excellent One Hour Photo and Never Let Me Go (Filmstalker review) is set to direct this film, and I think that could give the third, and most likely final film in the series something a little different.

Branagh directing Swedish novel adaptation...
Kenneth Branagh is going to direct an adaptation of the Swedish novelist Henning Mankell's book Italian Shoes. Yellow Bird, the company behind the original Stieg Larsson adaptations for the Millenium trilogy beginning with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, are behind the adaptation according to Variety. Richard Cottan adapted the story which sees an elderly surgeon who reunites with an old flame who is now dying of cancer to fulfil a promise he made some forty years before.
