Mortal Kombat reboot...

Fourth Paranormal Activity...

Ben Stiller directing horror?...
It seems strange but it does look like Ben Stiller is going to direct a horror film according to Deadline. Helen Childress has a speculative script that tells the story of a young woman who comes across an unusual object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past as well as her own destiny. It's described as a sophisticated horror and is compared to Rosemary's Baby, and it sounds like Stiller is starting to get serious these days. Interestingly Childress and Stiller worked together on Reality Bites.

Schwarzenegger's Last Stand has huge cast...
Could this be Arnold Schwarzenegger's Last Stand? Well the film is titled that but it's not shaping up to be that way. Jee-woon Kim is directing the film and the latest casting news from Variety tells us that it's also set to star Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman, Johnny Knoxville and Harry Dean Stanton along with Jaimie Alexander, Peter Stormare, Rodrigo Santoro, Eduardo Noriega and Zach Gilford in the film about the leader of a drug cartel escaped from prison and heading towards freedom, in his way is a small town and its Sheriff. There are some big names in there, and with Kim directing you have to say that this doesn't seem like a last stand, definitely more of a comeback.

Downey Jr. as Perry Mason...
Robert Downey Jr. could well be starring as another famous detective on film that of Perry Mason as his production company look set to bring the television series to film with an eye to making it a franchise, according to The Guardian. The Perry Mason character comes from Erle Stanley Gardner who mentored Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett, and delivered some eighty novels with the Mason character. Raymond Burr made the character his own by appearing as him in many of the Mason television and films, of which there are many, and now the Downey's look set to bring him back to the screen in a new franchise, this time with Robert Downey Jr. as Mason.

Depp as Dr Seuss...
According to The Guardian Johnny Depp is set to play Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr Seuss, in a biographical live action film about the writer and cartoonist. That said he's one of the producers at the moment and hasn't yet made the final decision to lead the film. Far from the stories of The Cat in the Hat and How The Grinch Stole Christmas being just funny stories for kids, Geisel read a story in a copy of Life magazine in 1954 which talked about the illiteracy of American children, so he decided to write a book that featured words that were considered vital for children to learn. The Cat in the Hat had two hundred and thirty six of these words and was a huge hit, he wrote many more and the characters and Geisel became a huge sensation. However his personal life was as troubled as anyone else. The character sounds perfect for Depp.

Mortal Kombat reboot...
After the short film and internet series from Kevin Tancharoen called Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which was originally designed to sell the new videogame, the series has come to the fore again and is set for a new film. According to Variety Tancharoen and Oren Uziel are set to write the script. Seriously, I can't believe that there's going to be another film, but then they've proven there's a market out there through the game, the short film and that web series which all caused a good deal of interest.

Fourth Paranormal Activity...
Senior heads at Paramount have been talking about a fourth film in the series and have said, through Yahoo News, that they can't imagine they won't make another one, not with the earnings it's bringing in. According to the story each of the films has been raking in a huge percentage of profit, in total the films cost US $8,015,000 and have taken more than $450 million. That's a profit.
