Stephen King is writing The Shining II...
Stephen King is writing a sequel to The Shining which will follow Danny Torrence in his later life as an orderly working in a hospice where he helps terminally ill patients die, using his skills to help them pass to the other side. Meanwhile Stephen King tells Torontist through /Film and JoBlo that there are...

...bad people in this story that were like vampires, only that what they sucked out was not blood, but psychic energy from special people like Danny Torrance. And I came to realize that these people were called The Tribe and that they move around a lot. Their leader is a woman called Rose [unintelligible] they all have these kinda pirate names, because pirates is sort of what they are.

Wow. Film material? I'm not so sure about. Pirates, vampires and an aging Danny sound like a recipe for disaster.

Diablo Cody's Lamb of God casting...
Russell Brand and Julianne Hough have been cast in Diablo Cody's directorial debut. The Hollywood Reporter tell us that her film, Lamb of God, will follow a religious woman who loses her faith in a plane crash and decides to go on a sinning bender to Las Vegas. There she amazingly returns to her beliefs after all that sinning and Brand helps her on the way. Wow, that's got a lot of believability hurdles to get through.

Timberlake joins Casablanca Records...
Justin Timberlake will play the seventies record producer Neil Bogart, co-founder of Casablanca Records, in a biographical film called Spinning Gold. He's also co-producing say Deadline, along with Bogart's sons who recently launched a production company. The film will tell Bogart's rags to riches story and the successes they had with Kiss, Parliament, Donna Summer, and The Village People. Who'll be playing Kiss then?

Kosinski's former Oblivion gains cast...
Jessica Chastain has joined Tom Cruise on Joseph Kosinski's next film which is adapting his idea of Oblivion into a feature according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's had a few name changes but the idea remains the same. Humanity is living in the clouds, literally, and Cruise's character has the job to nip down to Earth now and again and check on how things are, repair monitoring devices, etc. However down there he discovers a stranded person and he fights to get them both to safety, for it's not just them down there anymore.

Maria Callas biographical film...
Niki Caro is writing and directing a biographical film about the opera star Maria Callas. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that it is based on the book Too Proud, Too Fragile by Alfonso Signorini and he's also working on the script.

Proyas' Paradise Lost casting...
Paradise Lost, the adaptation of the John Milton poem by Alex Proyas which everyone is looking forward to has an interesting cast so far. Bradley Cooper plays Lucifer, Benjamin Walker plays Archangel Michael, Dijmon Hounsou plays Abdiel, Rufus Sewell, and now Latino Review carry the news that Camilla Belle will play Eve and Casey Affleck is in talks to play Gabriel. The film about the war in heaven and the casting out of Satan will make for great visuals and with Proyas behind it we're sure of something exciting to watch. Great cast so far too.

The Thing prequel prequel...
The Thing prequel, prequel comic is online. Yes it's confusing but I saw the news from JoBlo that there's a prequel to the new film The Thing, which is a prequel to The Thing, itself a remake of The Thing, online. Darkhorse comics have developed a story of The Thing in The Thing: The Northman Nightmare which tells the story of the creature before it was frozen in ice, when it arrived and came in contact with ancient Norsemen. Surely another film just waiting to be made? Is Eric in it?

Highlander remake gains director...
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is looking like he'll be the man to direct the Highlander remake according to Deadline. Think 28 Weeks Later and Intruders and this is where Highlander could be going, darker and tougher, and I would like that myself.

13: Game of Death remake gains director...
Daniel Stamm, see The Last Exorcism, is set to direct a remake of the Thai thriller 13: Game of Death according to The Hollywood Reporter. It follows a man who receives a phone call saying he's on a game show, being followed by hidden cameras, and he must complete thirteen tasks in order to win a huge cash prize. The original is a little bit of a cult film and probably just unheard enough to be remade without a big fuss, plus it has a great story too. As the tasks progress they get darker and harder.

More realistic Ness/Capone film...
James McTeigue is set to direct a film called Ness/Capone which will look back on that great story that was so well covered in The Untouchables that we thought it might be, well, untouchable. Not so as the Grant Pierce Myers script which was on the 2010 Hollywood Black List has McTeigue negotiating to direct say Deadline, and shows the Ness character in a much more realistic light, he's not such a do-gooder and often used quite dirty tactics.
